Former Edwardsville Township supervisor Kevin Hall…running for a chance to unseat first-term Republican Sen. Erica Harriss, who flipped the long-blue 56th District in 2022. The seat could be a top target for Senate Democrats next year.
“I will work with the other side. I will be a voice for downstate, rather than just being somebody who votes against everything and then doesn't bring anything back to their district,” he said.
Hall said his prior elected experience positions him well for the race. He was elected as an Edwardsville Township trustee in 2017 as a write-in candidate and later served one term as township supervisor. He currently works in information technology and previously worked six years at the Madison County Courthouse. Hall said he chose not to run for a second term as supervisor because he anticipated a potential campaign for another office.
“I had several people talk to me about various races running this year or next year,” Hall said. “But the Senate one jumped out as one where I felt like I could have the biggest impact in terms of the future for my children, myself and for the community.”
As township supervisor, Hall said he focused on affordability. The township helped to funded area programs including overnight warming locations, GlenEd Food Pantry and partnered with the Land of Goshen Community Market to match SNAP benefits for customers to make their money go further.
“I feel the same struggles as a lot of people in this community and this district, with three young kids I have seen the rising cost of childcare firsthand,” Hall said. “I feel like I can relate to and bring up the perspective of somebody that's living a very similar life and same experiences as many of the people in the district.”

Hall…referred to himself as an “unrelenting advocate for the working class” in his announcement, citing four years as township supervisor, saying he worked closely with residents to create better systems for meeting the basic needs of township residents.
“People are struggling right now, and I know this because I’ve taken the time to listen, to understand, and to work to meet their needs,” Hall said. “We need collaborative, productive leaders in Springfield to fight for the working class, particularly as we see challenges around housing, groceries, childcare, and utilities.”
